What types of 'solar panel' are there?

The 'panels' come in two kinds - evacuated tubes and flat plate collectors.
Evacuated tubes - these fit on to the roof, above the slate/tiles and offer excellent collection properties even on shady days. They work well even when they do not face precisely due South. Flat-Plate collectors - The blue/black glass panels work best in due south facing installations. They are slightly less efficient than evacuated tube type solar collectors - but have the advantage that they can be integrated into a roof for a sleek finish.
